§ 37.01 ESTABLISHMENT.

A Fire Department is hereby established in the city. The Fire Department is and shall be known as the Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department.

§ 37.02 COMPOSITION; ELECTION OF CHIEF.

The department shall consist of a Fire Chief and other officers and firefighters, all of whom shall be volunteers. The Fire Chief shall be elected by the members of the department, subject to the approval of the election by the City Council at any regular meeting.

§ 37.03 APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS.

All Assistant Fire Chiefs, Deputy Fire Chiefs, and all other officers of the department shall be appointed by the Fire Chief or elected by the firefighters as provided in the by-laws of the department.

§ 37.04 OPERATION UNDER BYLAWS.

The department shall operate pursuant to its by-laws, which by-laws are subject to approval by the City Council at any regular meeting of the City Council.

§ 37.05 COMPENSATION.

The Fire Chief and all other officers and firefighters shall receive no compensation but may be reimbursed for expenses incurred in the performance of their duties including training.

§ 37.06 APPROVAL OF EXPENDITURES REQUIRED.

No public funds of the city shall be expended by the fire department or any of its officers, directors or firefighters unless such expenditure is approved by the Mayor.
